John Renegar Current

Mr. John Renegar Current, 75, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at Forsyth Medical Center.  John was born in Johnston County, NC on October 1, 1946.  He retired from the United States Postal Service after decades of service.  John was a longtime faithful member of Ardmore Baptist Church.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and never missed a sporting or school event that his grandchildren were involved in.  John was also an avid Wake Forest Sports fan, loved music and enjoyed singing.  He spent a lot of time working in his yard and enjoyed the challenge of having a “perfect” yard.  John was preceded in death by his birth father, Roy Jones; adoptive parents, James Moody and Cordie Renegar Current; and sister-in-law, Catherine Current.  He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Brown Current; two daughters, Christie Current Buwalda (Bob) and Julie Current Gizinski (Andrew); grandchildren, Caleigh Buwalda, Colton Buwalda, and Misty Swaim (James “Sly”); great-grandchildren, Jamie Swaim and Luka Swaim; his twin brother, James Current and brother, Bob Jones (Brenda); two sisters, Sue Rizoti (Robert) and Jan Barnes (Will); birth mother, Elizabeth Jones and numerous other loving relatives.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ty Talton officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 pm Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Redeemer School, 1013 Melrose St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
