Johnny Ray Calhoun

Johnny Ray Calhoun, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. He was born in Forsyth County on July 31, 1954, to the late John Henry Calhoun and Evelyn McKaughan Calhoun. Johnny loved working with his hands. He spent his time playing guitar and spent much of his life listening to and playing music. Johnny also was fond of woodworking and tinkered with tractors and other farm equipment. He was a simple, hardworking man and was proud of his 37 years of employment at Johnson Controls, where he was a truck driver. Johnny was also a family man, and cherished the moments he spent with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Wayne Calhoun.

Surviving are his loving wife, Lynne Atkins Calhoun; a daughter, Connie Rae Dillard (Larry); grandchildren, Cassidy Craven (Colton), Katelyn Dillard, and Madison Guntun; as well as a brother, Mike Calhoun (Charlene).

A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Bunker Hill Methodist Church. A visitation will be held from 2:00-2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home, at all other times, friends will be received at the family’s home, located at 1851 Indian School Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284. Donations in Johnny’s honor may be made out to the Local American Cancer Society at PO Box 11796, Charlotte, NC 28220.
