Johnnie Martin

Mr. Johnnie Martin, 86, of Clemmons passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his home. He was born November 17, 1922 in Stapleton County, GA to Marvin M. and Willie Glover Martin. Mr. Martin was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Willie P. Martin; and a sister, Naomi Pitts. Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Virginia Trent Martin of the home; three children, John R. Martin and wife Debbie of West Union, SC, Charles M. Martin of Winston-Salem, and Barbara J. Martin of Clemmons; three grandsons, Kenneth Martin of Lexington, Chris Martin of Wilmington, and John Martin of Morristown, NY; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, John and Dominick; a brother, Alec Martin; a special sister-in-law, Dot Trent; and two special caregivers, Cheryl Brown and Tony Giles. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 Northwest 9th Ave., Miami, FL 33136-1494.
