Mr. John W. Worley, Sr., 91, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was one of 12 children, three girls and 9 boys, born October 13, 1921 in Henderson County, NC to Walter W. and Cordia Pittman Worley. Mr. Worley served in the U.S. Army for 5 years and was a WWII veteran. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked at Wake Forest University in maintenance, retiring after 25 years of service. He married Ella Frye in 1944 and they were blessed with 68 years of marriage. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lauren Worley. Surviving are his wife, Ella Frye Worley; four children, Diane Lawson, Kathy Myers (Jessie), John Worley (Linda), and Tim Worley (Janet); nine grandchildren, Nash Lawson, Susie Edwards, Tim Lawson, Jeff Boles, Shannon Frye, Traci Fisher, Katie Worley, Zeb Worley, and Samantha Worley; twelve great grandchildren; and a special friend and neighbor, Sybil Stafford. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Betty Helms officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
