John Delano Woods, PhD

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Delano Woods, 86, on Friday, June 30th, 2023. He passed away in his home with family by his side, leaving behind cherished memories in the hearts of his loved ones. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who led a life of kindness and made a positive impact on those who knew him. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Lenoir Rhyne University and a doctoral degree in physical chemistry from Duke University, working as a chemist until his retirement. John is survived by his wife, Gail Satterwhite Woods; his daughter, Rebecca Woods Daniel MD, PhD; his son, John Kenneth Woods; his grandsons, John Zachary Woods MS, Nathan Kenneth Woods, and John William Daniel; his granddaughter, Laura Katherine Daniel; and his sister, Mary Jane Woods Hart. His love and guidance will forever be with us. All are welcome to honor and celebrate John’s life at his memorial service Saturday, July 8th, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
