John Andrew Welch, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away gently as he lived his life, on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. John was born in Davidson County on October 1, 1930 to the late Creed and Ruth Welch. He was a member of Bethabara Moravian Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Wall Welch. Surviving are his daughters, Linda Beaver (Fred Fischer), Sharon Weibel (Marc); his grandchildren, Jonathan Beaver (Tanja Tokic), Jillian Peters (Trevor), Daniel Weibel, John Weibel; one great grandchild, Claire Peters; and two sisters, Jane Ridenhour and Alta Ledford. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed in Hawaii during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a lengthy career. John loved life and lived it in Christian humility with a gentle spirit. He enjoyed NASCAR, Wake Forest basketball, and was an avid outdoorsman. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Bethabara Moravian Church with the Rev. Tripp May, the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton, and the Rev. Don Griffin officiating. A graveside service will follow in God's Acre in Bethabara. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
