John William Bill" Tucker

Mr. John William ""Bill"" Tucker, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 14, 1924 in Forsyth County to John Wesley and Katie Gertrude Poe Tucker. Mr. Tucker volunteered for service in the U.S. Army during WWII at age 17, and landed on Anzio Beach on his 18th birthday. Mr. Tucker also served in Italy, Germany and North Africa. While a member of VFW Post 10485 in Arcadia, he served in the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. He retired from Western Electric. Preceding Mr. Tucker in death are his parents, two sister, Pauline Disher and husband Grady, Ruby Shook and husband George, one brother, Luther Grey Tucker. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Helen Parker Tucker; one son, Anthony W. Tucker of PA; two granddaughters, Katie Alease Tucker of PA, Kathy Padillo and husband Billy of Fresno, CA; two great granddaughters; two great grandsons; one great-great grandson; one brother, Jimmy Tucker and wife Linda Tucker of Yadkinville. A funeral service will be conducted 3:30PM, Sunday, November 23, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Wayne Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Saturday at the funeral home.
