Mr. John Stewart Taylor, 77, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. John was born February 8, 1936 to Charles Edward Taylor, Sr. and Kathleen Bruce Davis Taylor in Forsyth County. He graduated from Gray High School in 1956 and went on to serve as a firefighter and later as Deputy Sherriff for Forsyth County. He went on to retire from Nationwide Insurance. John had a special love of gospel music and a gift for transforming old houses. He was also an avid fisherman. There was a special place in his heart for his four-legged friends, Tommy, Caesar, and Beethoven (along with other assorted grand dogs.) In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Davis Taylor and Charles Edward Taylor, Jr.; as well as two sisters, Lois Taylor Sink and Helen Taylor. Survivors include his children, Tony Taylor (Donna) of Matthews, Kim Taylor (Elizabeth) of Winston-Salem, Shari Taylor of Winston-Salem, and Jason Taylor (Kristen) of Charlotte; sisters, Phyllis Church and Shirley Taylor; and grandchildren, Zach Taylor (Paige) of Raleigh, and Kelli McDonald of Winston-Salem; and former wife, Anne Taylor. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tim Wolfe officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. The family has requested that John lie in state at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 between the hours of 2:00 PM and 5:30 PM for anyone who would like to come to the funeral home to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 998 Hutton St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
