John Carroll Tabor

Kernersville - The family is deeply saddened by the passing of John Carroll Tabor, June 5, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center. John was a spirited 88 year old, always looking for a laugh from his family and friends whom he loved dearly. He was born December 21, 1922 in Swain County to the late Jesse Clyde and Effie Freeman Tabor and was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Wilson Tabor of the home; his children Vikki Tabor and Kathy West (Haywood) of High Point, Renee Minton (Joe) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Brooks Smoot (Rebekah) of Greensboro, Taylor West (Maria), Derek West, of High Point, Malia Minton, of Winston-Salem; one sister, Hazel Grooms, of Asheville; brothers Newell, Buel and J.C. of Bryson City. John was a true patriot and served proudly in the US Navy during WWII, aboard the Destroyer USS Cooner. He had a fulfilling career in the trucking industry serving as Vice-President of Central Transport and sales manager for both White Trucking Co. (Kernersville) and Freightliner (Greensboro). After retiring, John founded and proudly operated his own trucking business - Truck Locators of Kernersville. A Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday June 7, 2011 at Mt. Gur Cemetery with the Rev. Samuel Manus officiating. In lieu of flowers and appreciation of the Veteran Honor Program, the family requests memorials be made to the Kernersville Rotary Club Flight of Honor Program, P. O. Box 1822, Kernersville, NC 27285. Mr. Tabor was deeply appreciative and felt blessed to be able to participate in the Flight of Honor trip to Washington to see the WWII Memorial.
