John Wayne Sparks of Mocksville passed away at his home on Saturday, April 3, 2010 after several years of declining health. Wayne was born on August 31, 1941 in Davie County to the late Wilson Ward Sparks, Sr. and Louise Johnson Sparks. Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Southwest High School in Forsyth County. He served his country overseas in the U.S. Navy, serving on board both The Mayport and The Saratoga. He also served several years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. From childhood, Wayne was a member at Macedonia Moravian Church. He later joined and attended Union Hill Baptist Church until his health no longer permitted. Mr. Sparks retired after several years of employment with Westinghouse Turbine Components Plant. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Desiree Dawn Colley; a sister-in-law, Patricia Sprinkle Sellers of King, and a brother-in-law, Steve Ryan Moser of Lewisville. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Clydene Sprinkle Sparks of the home. He is also survived by his beloved daughters, Renee' Denise Sparks, Kristin Sparks Gillikin and her husband Brad, all of Wilmington and Sherri Lyn Sparks of Winston-Salem; surviving grandchildren are Joseph Colin Sparks, Wesley Adam Jones, and Samantha Cloer. Wayne is also survived by a brother, Wilson W. Sparks, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Advance; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sprinkle Moser of Lewisville and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Funeral services for Mr. Sparks will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Union Hill Baptist Church on Lasater Rd. in Clemmons with the Rev. Christopher E. Burcham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 1:45pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. Wayne's family wishes to thank their many friends for their kindness and support shown to them, especially during his illness.
