John Sloan, Jr.

The family of John Morris Sloan, Jr. is saddened at the loss of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather. John lost a very painful battle with cancer on Saturday, September 9th. John was 81 years old. He lived a full life serving in the Navy as a young man and later working for Norfolk Southern Railroad. John loved to sail and travel. He had his pilot's license and owned several planes over his lifetime, too. His sense of humor, gentle temperament, and caring nature will be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his father, John Morris Sloan, Sr., mother, Beatrice Day Young, and brother, Mickey Sloan. His surviving family includes his wife, Loretta, son, John Christopher Sloan, daughter-in-law, Kellie Sloan, and his two grandsons, William, and John Michael. John and his wife attended Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Visitation will be held at Morris Chapel at 4PM with funeral services following at 5PM on Thursday, September 14th. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Friends and family are asked to make donations to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, or the American Red Cross to help with Hurricane Irma disaster relief in Florida. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
