John "Eddie" Edward Scott

Eddie Scott, 70, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2016, in Winston Salem, NC. Eddie was born on October 23, 1945, in Macon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Jane Macken Scott and William Earl Scott. He was a 1967 graduate of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Eddie served twelve years in the US Air Force, receiving the national defense service medal Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster and Air Force good conduct Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Before attending Bible College at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia. Later, Eddie transferred to Piedmont International University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and was also an employee of the college for over thirty years. Eddie was a lifelong Christian and served the Lord at Salem Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he had many beloved friends. Special friends include Pastor Howard Wilburn, Michael Archenbronn, Ben Burkey, and Jeff and Jeanine Failing. Eddie loved Jesus, gospel and classical music, talk radio, reading, and telling corny jokes. He is survived by two sisters, Jeanne (Rodney) Dinehart of Penn Yan, New York, and Ruth (Kent) Wetsell of Cabot, Arkansas. He leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, Michelle Dinehart and Alan Dinehart of Penn Yan, New York; Casey Kemp, Cody Kemp, Kelly Looney, and Lindsay Hester, all of Cabot, Arkansas; and Shelley Crary, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and fourteen great nieces and nephews. Eddie was a happy and joyful person, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday evening March the 3rd at 7:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, officiated by Dr. Howard Wilburn. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will follow at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 429 S. Broad St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
