John McKamie Russell

John McKamie Russell, 77 of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011. Mr. Russell was born December 23, 1933 in Cabarrus County to John Wilson Russell and Mary Wilson Russell. John was a 1959 graduate of Wake Forest University, a US Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the Marine Air Wing Squadron 333 aboard the USS Coral Sea. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1965 and served as a deacon and elder with the church. John received a heart transplant on March 13, 1988 at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. He also coached Little League baseball at the South Little League and worked with the Cub Scout Pack 708. Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Lucille Russell Jenkins. Surviving to cherish his memory, are his wife of 50 years, Sandra Self Russell of the home, three sons; J. Scott Russell (Joy) of Winston-Salem, Mack Russell (Amy) of Mint Hill, NC, Brian Russell (Wendy) of King, NC., eight grandchildren; Amber, Jeremy, Jacob, Amanda, Lindsey, Sarah, Aaron, and Meredith Russell, Special Cousins, Ann Burr (Walt) of Concord, NC, Carl Wilson (Frances) of Fort White, Florida, a nephew, Hill Jenkins and a niece, Mary Vann Swigett. The Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Sunday, June 26 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, June 27 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by Rev. Kevin Conley. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Park.
