John David Reid

Mr. John David Reid, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Reid was born in Iredell County, NC to the late Glenn Reid and Nellie Ball Reid. John retired from Western Electric. He was an avid pilot and had a paint shop located at Twin Lakes Airport in Advance, NC. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Johnie McKay ""Kay"" Reid; one sister, Glenda Allison; and a brother, Bob Reid. Mr. Reid is survived by his two sons, David A. Reid of Statesville, NC and Glenn A. Reid (Bethany) of Fort Worth, TX; four grandchildren; and his girlfriend and caregiver, Mary R. Hemric of Yadkinville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Paul Wyatt officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff on the ICCU and 8th Floor Palliative Care units at Forsyth Medical Center for the compassionate care they provided to John during his illness.
