Mr. John Raymond Reavis, Jr., 77, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 17, 1931 in Iredell County to the late John Raymond and Jessie Beard Reavis. Mr. Reavis retired from Bell South with 37 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Reavis loved golf, dogs, and was an avid bowler and Duke Basketball fan. Preceding him in death was his half-sister, Janet Reavis and his grandmother, Amanda Beard. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Barbara Reavis; niece, Lisa Vawter (Ralph) of Walkerton, VA; aunt, Robena Smith, cousins John and Ron Smith all of New Jersey; also surviving is a special, loving friend, Do Wilson Kennedy and her daughter, Grace Kennedy. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Harold Lee Salmons officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center, 231 Melrose St. Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
