John Reno Poliotti

John Reno Poliotti, died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Born on February 14th in 1915 in Lodi, New Jersey, John was the son of Augusto and Theresa Lena Poliotti who emigrated from Italy through Ellis Island, NY. He was predeceased by his brothers, Angelo and Aldo Poliotti. His early years were spent in Oxford, NJ. Taught by his father to be a master dyer, he worked in several textile plants during his life time supervising the dying primarily of silks. One of the more known companies was Scalamandre in NY where he worked on fabric for many historical interiors including the Metropolitan Opera and the White House during the Carter Administration. He married Dorothy Ella Bashaw in 1938 who predeceased him in November of 2007. They lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey for over fifty years raising their daughters, Jane Dorothy and Susan Colby. John was active as a sportsman in fishing, hunting, golf and bowling. He loved the outdoors and took many trips to Canada with his hunting fellow-men where they would be flown into the wilderness of Canada with a French guide. He absolutely adored that. In December of 1999, John and Dorothy moved to Leisure Village West in Manchester, NJ and in June of 2007, they moved to Winston Salem. John is survived by his two daughters, Jane Dorothy Pento and her husband Paul and Susan Colby Pellegrino and her husband Rocco, all of Winston-Salem; his sister, Theresa Talamini of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; five grandchildren, Alexander G.F. Pento of Winston Salem, Karen L. Freeman of Brick, NJ, Paul D. Pento of Chatham, NJ, Kevin M. Pento of Brielle, NJ and Kristopher T. Pento of Tampa, FL.; seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Warren Hills Memorial Home in Washington, New Jersey with burial to follow at the Port Murray Cemetery. Date will be announced later in June. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff of Hospice for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of John to the Kate B.
