John Carr Phelps

Mr. John Carr Phelps, 81, passed away at home on Friday, May 24, 2013. John was born August 9, 1931 to Willie Phelps and Addie Bette Beauchamp Phelps in Davie County. After graduating from Shady Grove High School, John served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He later went to work for Ingersoll Rand where he was employed until retirement. He enjoyed gardening and riding his John Deere tractor. Another favorite pastime was fishing with friends at Cape Hatteras; and he was a huge Carolina fan. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Phelps. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jean Phelps; son, Tim Phelps (Andrea); daughter, Cindy Hicks (Robert); grandchildren, Tristan Phelps, Landon Phelps, Tala Hicks, Brittany Hicks, Joshua Hicks, and Nichole Hicks; as well as sisters, Susie Anderson, Nell Burton, and Maxine Bailey (Bob); and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Mocks United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bill Taylor, and Pastor Danny Dillard officiating.
