John Baker Mecum, Jr

Mr. John Baker Mecum, Jr., 74, of Greensboro, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mecum was born in Iredell County, NC on September 7, 1941, to the late John Baker Mecum, Sr. and Edith Shook Mecum. John was an avid golfer and loved horse racing. John was a devout Christian and loved his Lord. He was known as a giving man and would always help anyone in need. John treasured the time he spent with his family and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Mecum and one brother, Jerry Mecum. Mr. Mecum is survived by his wife, Pattie Boles Mecum of the home; children, Sandie Bledsoe (Cameron) of Greensboro, NC, John Edward Mecum (Alicia) of Woodstock, GA, Kenneth Mecum, Karen McWilliams, and Tracy Gagner (Rob), all of Winston-Salem; step-children, Cheryl Mayes (Steve) of Winston-Salem, Robin VanTorre (Gene) of Thomasville, NC, Lori Vest (Kevin) of Kernersville, NC, and Tina Ragan of Rosewood, NC; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mike Mecum (Linda) of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Wallace Cole officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
