John Henry McPherson, Sr.

Mr. John Henry McPherson, Sr., 99, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023.  He was born August 10, 1924, in Oran Missouri to the late Elmer and Huntace McPherson.

He was known by many names.  Senior and Mr. Mac were the most popular. But we were lucky enough to call him Dad and Grandpa.

From his time in the Army Air Corps (WWII), to demonstrating shotguns and trick shots, selling paint, to magazines and books, he traveled all over the USA. He loved golf, bridge, his family, his friends, the St Louis Cardinals, and Appalachian State. He never met a stranger and had a servant heart.  He would do whatever he could to help you.

For all that knew him, they loved him.  He is in a better place.  We were there holding his hands. He is not in pain or distress.  It may not be what we wanted, but it is what he wanted.  Hopefully he is with Mom, Ray, Leigh, and all his family and friends who have gone before.

Please keep those grieving in your thoughts and tell your friends and family every chance you love them.  Not everyone makes it to 99.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Sammie McPherson; son, Raymond H. McPherson (Leigh); sister, Annie Frazier (Webb); and brother-in-law, James Simpson.

He is survived by three sons: Scott E. McPherson (Catherine), Ted W. McPherson, and John H. McPherson (Katherine); four grandchildren: Alexandria G. McPherson (Michael), Benjamin J. McPherson (Paige), Jenna L. McPherson, and Laura OM. McPherson; great-grandson, Austin C. Price; two siblings, Opal M. Simpson and George E. McPherson (Doris); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Mr. McPherson.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church, 3700 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012 or the Mountaineer Athletic Fund YOSEF, 425 Jack Branch Dr, Boone, NC 28608.
