John Walkup McCoy

KERNERSVILLE - John Walkup McCoy, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1925 in Lexington, VA to the late Kenton Harper and Ollie Marple McCoy. John was an active member of Fairlington United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men's group in Alexandria, VA, where he served on the board. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during WWII and graduated from Washington and Lee University. John retired as Chief of Computer Operations with the Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Stevens and brother-in-law, Eugene Mercer Stevens. Surviving are his wife, Iris Tolley McCoy of the home; two daughters, Cheryl McCoy Greene and Barbara Lynne McCoy; two grandchildren, Bryan (Christa) Allen Greene, and Kathryn (John) Leigh Breeden; four great-grandchildren, Parker Greene, Emma Goodwin, Cooper Reid, and Noah Greene; one nephew and two nieces. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm Friday, May 10, 2013 at Arbor Ridge Kernersville with the Rev. Sarah Kalish officiating.
