WINSTON-SALEM, NC-Mr. John Kazimierz Lewandowski, 79, of Winston-Salem, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 while on vacation in Denver, Colorado. He was born on August 17, 1935 in Krakow, Poland to the late Kazimierz Edwin Lewandowski and Wladyslawa Zatorska Lewandowska. Mr. Lewandowski graduated from the School of Architecture at the Krakow University of Technology, with the title of Master of Arts in Architecture and Urban Planning. His long professional career covered work in Poland, France, Baghdad, Iraq and the United States. For 29 years, he worked in partnership with his wife, Anna, designing buildings, homes and churches in Western North Carolina, mainly in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewandowski was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Anna Maria Lewandowski. He is survived by his son, Simon Lewandowski and wife, Kristi of St. Petersburg, FL; one daughter, Magdalena Lewandowski and husband, Doug Bryant of Falls Church, VA; two granddaughters, Izabella and Maya, both of Falls Church, VA; as well as many dear friends on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Winston-Salem with Rev. Carl Zdancewicz and Rev. William Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Reynolda Rotary Club, 3331 Union Knoll Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. All contributions will go to the Polio Plus Campaign, a project which strives to end polio worldwide. Please put on the memo line of the check ""Lewandowski Memorial.""
