John James Johnson

John J. Johnson, 78, of Yadkinville, NC went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2011. John was born on December 12, 1932 in Morganton, NC. He spent his childhood in Lenoir, NC where he graduated from Lenoir High School in 1951. John attended Wake Forest College, receiving his B.S. Degree Cum Laude in 1955 and his L.L.B. Degree from Wake Forest College Law School in 1959. In between receiving his degrees, John served two years in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. John started his law career with State Farm and then worked for Integon attaining the position of Vice President and General Counsel, Property and Casualty Companies before he retired after 31 years. During this time he was also active in the Deacon Club and Winston-Salem Optimist Club. John thoroughly enjoyed 12 years of retirement before his death. A member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years, he taught Sunday School classes, served as a Deacon, and served on various church committees. He was an avid golfer, reader, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also volunteered at Yadkin Christian Ministries. John is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, of 50 years; his daughter, Sue Morris (Mike) of Norfolk; son, Jeff (Esther) of Honolulu; brothers, Charles M. (Nancy) of Concord and David B. of Mount Airy; and his nieces, nephew and their families. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
