John Jacob Hunter

John Jacob Hunter died January 28, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on December 16, 1932, to Russell and Ethel Stoltz Hunter in Forsyth County. He graduated from Lewisville High School and attended Liberty University. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Korean War. After working a short time at Western Electric, he decided a desk job was not for him. He loved airplanes and started flying small aircraft. After buying one of his own, he moved to Surry County where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked at several airports as a mechanic on small aircraft and eventually as an independent mechanic. He never married and was a lifelong member of Bethania Moravian Church, where he sang in the choir and was the director of the church band for many years, until his health failed. He was predeceased by two young brothers and a sister, Lucy Sherrill. Surviving is a sister, Martha Beroth and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Bethania Moravian Church Graveyard with Rev. Linda Seippel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethania Moravian Church, 5545 Main St. Bethania, NC 27010.
