John Alexander Hicks

Mr. John Alexander Hicks, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Springwood Care Center. Mr. Hicks was born in Forsyth County on April 8, 1922 to Walter and Naomi Griffin Hicks. He was a Deacon at First Church of the Living God, later known as Faith Chapel, and very active with fundraisers or any activities at the church. His life was dedicated to helping others. Mr. Hicks retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company with over 40 years service. He along with his wife of 68 years, Frances Edna Marsh Hicks, co-founded the Happy Travelers Club and lead numerous tours across Canada and the United States. In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, W.H. Hicks, Jr.; and a sister, Lillian H. Noah. Mr. Hicks is survived by a son Ricky Hicks and wife Lena of Port -au- Prince, Haiti; two brothers, Charles and Raymond Hicks; two granddaughters, Tabitha Hicks of Mocksville and Heather Hicks of Advance; a step-granddaughter, Katya Hicks of Miami, FL; two great-grandchildren, Roxanna Barney and Jakob Cable; and a devoted and loving niece who cared for him, Pat Carlton of Kernersville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Joe Long and the Rev. Wesley Tuttle officiating. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
