John Grayson Harris

Mr. John Grayson Harris, 63, of Lewisville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2015. He was born February 8, 1952 in Forsyth County to Virginia Holcomb Harris and Everette Grayson Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are his three daughters, Stephanie Harris Garwood (Clipper) of Mocksville, Melissa Wesley Branch(Taylor) of Lewisville and Amanda Harris of Lewisville; five grandchildren, Grayson and Dylan Garwood, Connor, Addison and Dallas Branch; two sisters, Sheila Vogler (John) of Winston-Salem, Susan Pugh (Bobby) of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Steve Harris (Bettye) of Lewisville and Mark Harris (Beth) of Charlotte; the mother of his children, Shirly Harris and his horse, R.D. Speedstick, who he considered his son. Grayson's love of horses began at an early age when his grandfather shared his love with him. He enjoyed quail hunting, raising dogs, and working on his beloved Oak Grove Farm. He passed his love of horses and animals on to his three daughters. He believed in hard work. He lived by the motto if something needs to be done, you get it done. Those who knew him will always remember his contagious laugh, his sense of humor, and his entertaining personality. He was a devoted father to his daughters, a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, and always encouraged everyone he met to be the best that they could be. He had a generous spirit and believed in helping anyone in need. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030.
