John Earl Harpe

Mr. John Earl Harpe, Jr. 82 of Winston-Salem died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Harpe was born September 25, 1926 in Yadkin County, a son of the late John Harpe, Sr. and the late Stella Jane White Harpe. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII and was retired from AT&T with 35 years of service. He was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Laynell Harpe. Mr. Harpe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alberta Medlin Harpe, son, Dr. Keith Harpe and wife Susan, daughter, Lisa Collins and husband John, brother, Lee Harpe and wife Katie, sister, Patsy Ann Miller and husband Cecil, 2 grandchildren, Krystal Matlock, and Steven Harpe, 1 great-grandchild, Dylan Matlock. A funeral service will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Dr. David A. Marcus, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Henry May officiating. Interment will follow in New Philadelphia Moravian Church Graveyard with military rite provided by The VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem, 1700 Ebert Street, Winston Salem NC 27103.
