John William Gillispie

John William Gillispie

John William Gillispie, passed away peacefully at his home October 6th, 2012 at the age of 88. He was born in Surry County October 23, 1923 to the late Charlie Walter and Laura Emma Gillispie. After moving to Winston-Salem in 1952 he soon began working for The Bahnson Company, where he retired after 32 years of service. He had a very creative and inventive mind and when retired, he enjoyed woodcrafts and working on lawnmowers. He was a hardworking, faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a member of Marshall Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Mae Cook, a son Alfred William (Freddy) Gillispie; his sisters, Ethel Creed, Alice McCollum, Lillian Phillips, Jeanette Phillips and a brother Santford Gillispie. He is survived by his daughters Jaime Dark Wolf (Ollie Jean) of Winston-Salem and Kathy Blanchard of Currituck NC (Randy), Granddaughters Cheryl Wilson of Winston-Salem (Danny) and Ashley Titus of Lewisville, Great Grandson William Grayson Wilson, a sister Ruby Harvey of Shoals, NC, many loved nieces and nephews; caring neighbors and church family. Funeral Services will be held at Marshall Baptist Church Tuesday October 9th, 2012 at 11am with Reverend John Holmes officiating, burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am-11am prior to the service. His family would like to thank the Hospice and Palliative Care Center for the excellent care he received both at home and at the hospice home. We especially thank Kristen for her personal care; Helena and Carmen; Amani Healthcare - Kalia and Jennifer and Terri Sacco for making his last weeks easier on him and our family. We appreciate the love and care they all showed him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B.
