John Marshall Clark

John Marshall Clark, 78 of Pfafftown, passed away on July 12, 2010, at Brookridge Retirement Healthcare Center. Mr. Clark was born July 15, 1931, in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late John E. and Blanche Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Wanda Clark Kiser. Mr. Clark graduated Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem in 1949. After serving four years in the United States Navy, he obtained his Bachelor's degree at Wake Forest University in 1958. He was a licensed CPA and partner with Strand, Skees, Jones and Company for 19 years before becoming Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Workmen's Federal Savings and Loan Assn, for 15 years, prior to retiring from BB&T. Mr. Clark and his family lived in Mount Airy, NC for 27 years where he was a member of Central United Methodist Church, and active in Mt. Airy High School Band Booster Club and Lions Club. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Clark relocated to Forsyth County and joined Ogburn Memorial Church. Mr. Clark was a founding and faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, served on many committees and was secretary of the Church Council. Mr. Clark loved taking vacations around the United States with his family. He was fond of all types of music, especially gospel and big band music. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a special love for all animals, and always had a pet dog. Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Jackson Clark, of the home; daughter and son-in-law Kathy Clark Bailey and Don Bailey of Morganton, NC; daughter Joni Clark and granddaughter Emily Clark of the home. Mr. Clark was also blessed with two other grandchildren, Erica Bailey Long and husband Tommy; Rev. Derek Bailey and wife Wendy, all of McLeansville, NC. In addition, he is survived by five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sydney Long; Conner, Tyler, and Carter Bailey. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 10:00am at Faith United Methodist in Rural Hall by Rev. Drew Southern and Rev. Derek Bailey. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
