John Edwin Cheek

Greensboro- John Edwin Cheek, 72, passed away Monday at his home. He was born on May 27th 1938 to Annie Dare Isley and James Edwin Cheek of Liberty NC. A native of Randolph County, he was a member of Colfax Baptist Church in Colfax NC. He was a veteran of the US Army and a retiree of Sears Roebuck Corporation and Roush Racing. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Cheek; son, Chad Cheek and wife, Beth of Greensboro; stepdaughters, Jill Lemar of Greensboro and Kim Keelon of High Point; brothers, Jerry I. Cheek of Sparks, NV, James D. Cheek of Snow Camp; sister, Diane Moore of Burlington; five grandchildren, Mattison Cheek, Payton Cheek, Sawyer Cheek, Ashlea Thornton and husband Justin, Brittany Welborn and husband, Jon; two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Trent and Madison Thornton He had a passion for working outdoors in his yard and garden and working on his farm in Liberty. He never met a stranger and loved helping others. He loved watching NASCAR, Tractor Pulls, N.C. State and Westerns. He also loved country music and any type of bluegrass music. He enjoyed his weekly board meeting for lunch with his buddies Barney Campbell, Henry McPherson and James ""The Republican"" Lowe every Saturday at Kidds Drive-In. More than anything he loved life and getting to spend time with his friends and family members. A Service at Colfax Baptist Church will be held Thursday morning, March 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM with a graveside service to follow at Westminster Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011 from 6-9:00 PM at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Colfax Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Colfax, NC 27235 or to the American Heart Association Triad Area of NC, 101 Centreport Drive Suite 130, Greensboro, NC 27409.
