John Cansler, Sr.

Mr. John Robert Cansler, Sr., 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020. He was born January 11, 1930 in Sweetwater, TN to Elizabeth Brewer Cansler and John Boyd Cansler. Mr. Cansler served in the U.S. Army. He was a charter member and previous Interim Pastor of Grace Baptist Church. He retired from Piedmont Airlines as a Chief Pilot and was a member of the Piedmont Silver Eagles. Mr. Cansler was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis Cansler. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Gerri Gouge Cansler; a daughter, Sherri Gordon (Robert); a son, John R. Cansler, Jr. (Mary); five grandchildren, Marc McCann (Nicole), Elisabeth Slate (Josh), Rebekah McGee (Brian), Joshua Cansler (Riki) and Joseph Cansler and three great grandchildren, Alex McGee, Ava Slate and Raelynn Cansler. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Bush officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
