Mr. John William Blount, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 24, 1940 in Salem, VA.

John graduated from Virginia Tech in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. John enjoyed employment with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and retired with more than 40 years of service. John received the Power Generation Business Unit 1994 Eagle Award. In 1991, a United States patent was granted in John’s name for his contribution to the design of a turbine blade. John continued to work for 6 years at BE Aerospace after retirement. He attended First Baptist on Fifth in Winston-Salem and was part of the Friendship class.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Maxey Blount and Samuel Wilson Blount, Sr. and two brothers, Sam Blount, Jr. and James Blount. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Helen Blount; one daughter, Melissa Hobson (Mark); one son, Brian Blount (Catherine); four grandchildren, Matthew Pilcher (Min), Morgan Hobson, Gray Blount and George Blount; two sisters, Linda Richardson and Oakie Sue Singletary (Ernie) sister-in-law Mary Peters (Donald) and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 21 at 1pm at First Baptist Church on Fifth with Rev. Amy McClure officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may made to First Baptist on Fifth or to the donor’s choice.
