Winston-Salem – Mr. John Samuel Binkley, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Trinity Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on September 21, 1942 in Forsyth County to Alva E. “Pat” and Maude Mickey Binkley. John was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a faithful member of Freeman Street Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir there. When he was able, he was also involved with the visitation ministry at Freeman Street Baptist Church, where he would go and visit with members who were unable to attend services. He loved to play golf, enjoyed reading his bible, and delighted in sitting in the sunshine. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ann Cooke Binkley; his daughter, Jean; sister, Gay Johnson; and brother, Don Binkley.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Carolyn Vanhoy (husband, Mike) and Rhonda Robertson (husband, Brent); two sons, Darren Binkley and John Binkley; seven grandchildren, Crystal White, Monica Moore, Stacy Hackler (husband, Michael), Neill McCaskill, Alec McCaskill, Jana Vanhoy, and Necoh Robertson; three great grandchildren, Everly and Georgia McCaskill and Kayla Hackler; and his sister, Marianne Stegall (husband, Bob).
With social distancing observed and masks requested, a private graveside service for John will be held at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation at 849 Waterworks Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
