John Beamer

John Dick Beamer, 97, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Davie Medical Center.  He was born in Surry County on August 7, 1925, to the late Caleb Warren and Kettie Steele Beamer.  Mr. Beamer served in the U.S. Navy for four years on the U.S.S. Little during WWII where he survived the ship being sunk by Kamikaze pilots and witnessed the flag being raised in Iwo Jima.  He then joined the U.S. Army and served 16 years with three tours in Vietnam.  He was a member of Old Town Baptist Church.  John loved spending time with his family, golfing, and motorcycles.  Preceding him in death were three sisters, Gladys “Pete” Beamer, Helen Caldwell, and Leana Garner; two brothers-in-law, Sid Caldwell and Ralph Garner.  Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Dean Beamer; daughter, Joni Johnson (Jim); two grandsons, Caleb and Elijah; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.  Acquired family members include Calvin and Brenda Johnson and Steve and Cindy Huffman.  A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2023, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Town Baptist Church, 4386 Shattalon Dr. Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
