John William Ashworth, 80, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in Forsyth Medical Center. John was born in Lynchburg, VA, on July 11, 1944, to the late Frank and Dorothy Fischer Ashworth. He was a man of many hobbies, including photography, playing softball, watching sports, and was also an antique car enthusiast. He loved getting into a good sports game, most notably the Carolina Hurricanes and the Atlanta Braves. John’s happiest moments were spent with his family, particularly watching his grandchildren play sports. John also spent over 30 years as a machine operator at RJ Reynolds. He was a proud Army Veteran and proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. He will be missed incredibly by those who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are John’s loving wife of nearly 60 years, Vikie Wofford Ashworth; a son, Brian Ashworth; a daughter, April Frazier (James); grandchildren, Dalton, Payton (Rhi), Hannah, and Olivia; as well as a brother, Wayne Ashworth (Pat).
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Encompass care for everything they did for John and his family during these hard times, as well as the nurses and staff on the fourth floor of Forsyth Medical Center for their care and kindness. Also, a thank you to Dr. Dugan and his staff at the Hematology and Oncology department at Forsyth Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Joey Baynes officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 6-8 PM at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
