Joella Louise Newman Snody

Mrs. Joella Louise Newman Snody, 82, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on September 15, 1942, in Fancy Gap, VA to the late Rev. Burlie Edward Newman and Ima Celeste Combs Newman. Joella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She grew up in Paul’s Creek Baptist Church where her father served as a pastor, and she played the piano. Joella loved taking care of her family, especially celebrating birthdays and holidays together. She was known as a selfless loving person. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Newman, and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara McMillian (Foy). She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Michael Greenwood Snody, Sr.; three children, Michael Greenwood Snody, Jr. (Dana), Sharon Flynt (Mark); and Susan Hindle (Terry); six grandchildren, Michael Colter Snody, Jessica Snody, Megan Brown (Tim), Caitlin Mordock (Johnny), CeCe Foster (Evan); and Walker Michael Hindle; three great-grandchildren, Cam Brown, Marley Brown, and Finley Mordock; one brother, Jack Newman (Pat); sister-in-law, Phyllis Newman; special friend, Linda McDowell; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11am Friday, April 18, 2025, at Paul’s Creek Baptist Church in Cana, VA. with Rev. Justin McCreary officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at 2:30pm on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC.
