Mr. Joel Wesley Williams, Jr., 83, of Lexington died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born August 7, 1928 to Joel Wesley Williams, Sr. and Margaret Irene Dickens Williams. Mr. Williams attended James A. Gray High School and retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company following 38 years of service. He served with the 140th Tank Battalion during the Korean War and was a member of the VFW. He was an avid New York Yankee and NASCAR fan. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Williams. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Barger Williams of the home; one son, Joel Williams and wife, Sandra of Lewisville; one daughter, Karen Cooke and husband, Randy of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Christopher Williams and wife, Sharon, April Williams, Olivia Williams, Meghan Cooke, Brad Cheek, and Chris Davis and wife, Amy: five great grandchildren, Madison, Kennedy, Austin, Colby and Brock; and two nephews, Phillip Williams and wife, Isis and Wesley Williams. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VFW, c/o Cliff Harris, 4433 Bashavia Dr., Pfafftown, NC 27040.
