SIMMONS RURAL HALL, Mr. Joe Dean Simmons, 68 of Sommerdale Court passed away Monday, August 3, 2009 at his home. Mr. Simmons was born in Surry County of February 1, 1941 the son of the late James Monroe and Lissie Susan Harrel Simmons. Joe was a member of Becks Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and had retired from Stroh Brewery. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty McHone. Surviving is his wife of 48 years Juanita Edwards Simmons of the home, a daughter Heather S. Waddell and her husband Daryl, two grandsons Matthew Gray Waddell and Tyler Joe Waddell all of King, three sisters Julia (Gray) Peele, Ruth Chilton and Brenda (Dwight) Atkins, three brothers Bud (Barbara) Simmons, Roy Lee Simmons and Tommy Gray (Katie) Simmons and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Becks Baptist Church with Dr. Karl Minor and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Simmons family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday evening at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Memorials donations may be made to Becks Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The Simmons family wishes to express a Special Thanks to Dr. Susan Hines, Debra Clark PA and to the Oncology Staff at Forsyth Regional Cancer Center for the special care Joe received during his illness.
