Mr. Joe Hunter Reins, 85 of Clemmons, NC, died on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on May 4, 1930, in Winston-Salem, NC, to Charles Cicero and Ella Armstrong Reins. Mr. Reins graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School in 1949. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied Business Administration. He left to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean War, including an assignment at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was on active duty for 4 years. Mr. Reins worked for 35 years at Duke Energy (formerly Duke Power Company) in both Hickory, NC and Winston-Salem. He began his career in Winston-Salem as a salesman in the office. He transferred to Hickory as commercial manager and continued in that position for 19 years. He returned to Winston-Salem in 1977 to become the marketing manager and remained there until his retirement. During his professional career, Mr. Reins served his community as a member of Kiwanis International, the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem, the Winston-Salem Sales & Marketing Association, and a local Toastmasters Club in Forsyth County. While in Hickory, Mr. Reins was active with church volunteer work from ushering during church services to helping with food preparation of church gatherings. He also enjoyed many hobbies including tennis, bridge, fishing, and golf. Mr. Reins is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Evans Reins; a daughter, Cheryl Reins Malcolm, and her husband, Kenneth Washam Malcolm, Jr.; a son, Blair Armstrong Reins, and his wife, Judy Flower Reins; and the beloved family dog, Alex. Another son, Randall Hunter Reins, predeceased Mr. Reins in 2011. They are now rejoicing together in Heaven. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18th, 2016, in the Sanctuary at Ardmore United Methodist Church, 630 South Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem with Rev. Jock Ollis and Rev. Lisa Tanico officiating. All friends and family are welcome. A special thanks to the cardiac medical team at Forsyth Medical Center.
