Jocie Epperson Bowman

Mrs. Jocie Epperson Bowman, 84, died at Forsyth Medical Center on June 26, 2016. Jocie was born on September 25, 1931 in Patrick County, VA, to Albert and Era Jessup Epperson. She was raised in Ararat, VA, and attended Blue Ridge High School. In 1953, she married Jessie Thornton Bowman, and became a longtime resident of Winston-Salem, attending Urban St. Baptist Church, Vernon Forest Baptist Church, and Calvary Baptist Church. She loved college sports, gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, arts, and crafts. Her family will remember her as a beloved grandmother, mother, sister, twin sister, aunt, great aunt, and loving wife. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Thornton Bowman. Surviving are two sons, Greg Bowman (Mary Oian) and Chris Bowman (wife Rhonda); one grandchild, Casey Bowman; one twin sister, Ocie Boyd (husband Robert); two brothers, Golden Epperson (wife Alease) and Eugene Epperson (wife Becky); Melissa Blankenship and Lateah Dunn (considered daughters) and Megan Parnell (considered a second grandchild); and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
