JoAnne Cooke Whitney

Clemmons JoAnne Cooke Whitney passed away on March 24, 2013 at her home after an extended illness. She was born on July 2, 1933 to the late William Guthrie Cooke, Sr. and Carrie Winfree Cooke in Kernersville. She was a retired nurse, an active volunteer and devoted sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Surviving are her son, Jeffrey Allan Whitney and his wife, Twila of Clemmons; a daughter, Martha Whitney Parent and her husband Bob of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Austin Parent and Haley Anne Parent of Winston-Salem; a sister, Carolyn Cooke Mock and her husband Charles of East Greenwich, Rhode Island; and three special friends: Chrissy Burton of Winston-Salem, Valerie Ryan of Winston-Salem and Debra Hicks of Rural Hall. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Whitney and a number of brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. David Marcus, Jr. at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. There will be a private burial. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice and Palliative Care for their help during JoAnne's illness. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to AARF (Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation) or the charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
