Joanne Long

Mrs. Joanne Elizabeth Talley Long, 76, of King, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Joanne was born in Winston-Salem on May 12, 1946, to the late Joe Eagleson Talley and the late Ann Elizabeth Speas Talley. She grew up in Tobaccoville and graduated from North Forsyth High School. She attended Mitchell College where she studied Liberal Arts and Psychology. While attending college, she met and later married Jerry Long. After college, Joanne went to work with her mother and father at Talley’s Flower Shop in King, learning how to creatively arrange flowers and also how to run a small business. Joanne always enjoyed being a floral designer and helped many people with weddings, parties, and baby showers and also did many floral arrangements for homes, churches, and businesses. While working for her parents she received the American Floral Institute Award of Excellence and was recognized in their national magazine. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of Mizpah Moravian Church and raised her children in that congregation as well. During retirement, Joanne and Jerry moved their membership to King Moravian Church. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Brent Long, of the home; son, Jeffrey Brent Long (Dr. Paul Martin Peucker) of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and son, Jason Patrick Gkitsas-Long (Nikolaos Gkitsas-Long) of Mountain View, California. A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at King Moravian Church with Pastor Doug Rights officiating and Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Joanne’s body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at God’s Acre (cemetery) of Bethania Moravian Church.
