Joann Whicker Royal, a woman with a heart of gold, passed away on June 23, 2023, in Kernersville, NC. Joann's story began on April 7, 1953, in Forsyth County, NC, the daughter of James and Flora Wright Whicker.
Joann was born and raised in the countryside of North Carolina. Her simple upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for nature and its bounties. She was happiest when gardening, observing birds and cats or camping with those she held dear. She had an innate love for the outdoors and all things simple and pure.
Joann's work life spanned across multiple careers. She worked as a bookkeeper at Royal's Exxon Service and made valuable contributions to the business. She also worked at Deluxe Check Printers where she met some incredible people who quickly became her friends.
Even though Joann took pride in her work, she considered her family to be her most impressive achievement. She took care of them wholeheartedly to ensure they were well taken care of. This aspect of Joann's personality defined who she was as a person - dependable, loving and fiercely protective of those close to her.
To those who knew her best, Joann was simply one-of-a-kind. Her genuine personality oozed through every word and action she took and left an impact on everyone that knew her. Even during challenging times - Joann remained optimistic about life's twists and turns.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Paul Whicker
Joann is survived by Eddie Royal - her husband of 50 years; Travis Royal (Heather Obrecht) - their son from Kernersville; Amy Collins (Mike) - their daughter from Clemmons; Tommy Whicker - brother from Kernersville; Stubby & Bandit - grand cats who brought much joy to Joann's life.
