Jo Ann Markland

Mrs. Jo Ann Hardin Markland, 88, passed away on September 1, 2020 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Jo Ann was born on December 28, 1931 to Boyd Hardin and Rulene Greene Hardin in Rutherford County. Surviving are her children, Bryan Curtis Markland, James Barry Markland (wife Teresa) and Sheila Markland. She was a loving sister, mother, wife, and grandmother who would do anything for her family and for that she will be cherished always. After retiring from a 20 year distinguished career from the NC Department of Transportation she embarked on a 13 year vacation to The Villages in Florida which she thoroughly enjoyed before returning home to NC due to health issues. After returning she derived so much joy from being able to spend her remaining years with her close family, especially her sisters Shirley Black, Pat Hardin, and Debra Hardin Petersen as well as her brother Bud Hardin who preceded her in death. Her grandchildren Bryanna Markland and Tanner Markland were a source of so much pride and joy for her. Her time spent with them was precious and meant so much. Her love for her children was boundless and unconditional. She will live within us forever with love and appreciation.  Dementia made her last couple of years challenging but as with everything else in her life she fought hard, did the best she could, and left the rest to God. For that she will be rewarded with eternal life in Heaven.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 4, 2020 at Parklawn Memorial Park with Pastor Bill McKenzie officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com. The Family requests that Memorials be sent to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103
