Ms. Joann West Horton, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was born in Forsyth County on December 31, 1934, to the late Joseph and Lota Sutphin West. Joann was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School, where she met her late husband, Ted Horton. She retired at the age of sixty years old from Hanes Hosiery with over thirty years of service. Joann loved to travel and took many trips with her family and friends. During her years, she spent much time taking care of sick family members and spending time with her grandchildren. Joann survived breast cancer and lived thirteen years after being diagnosed.
In addition to her parents, Joann is preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Hartgrove and Lynn Timothy, granddaughter, Malia Tyson, and her close mother and father-in-law, Avery and Dorothy Horton. Surviving are her three daughters: Donna Moreno, Pamela Horton, and Jody Horton; three grandchildren: Kailey, Jerica, and Laken Tyson; many nieces and nephews; and a half-sister, Mary Joe Tilley.
