Joan Pope York

Joan Pope York, 80, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on December 10, 1942 to the late Lonnie Eugene Pope and Margaret Ebert Pope in Forsyth County. Joan was a faithful believer and member of Center Grove Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was a free spirit who loved to gamble, travel, and have a good time. Joan and the love of her life, Horace, would often travel to Las Vegas and other places such as Cherokee, NC. She was known to always put her family first and will be remembered as the most loving wife, mother, nanny, and great-nanny. Her memory will forever live on and be cherished by the ones she loved the most. In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her sisters, Flavia Tribolet, Majorie Grimsley, and Sylvia McClure; brothers, Richard Pope, Don Pope, and George Pope. Joan is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, Horace Buford York, Jr.; son, Michael York (Michele); daughter, Angela Agner (Jim); grandchildren, Brittni Chomic (Chris), Kevin York, Hunter Tysinger, and Nicole Goddard (Mark); great-grandchildren, Lila Perry, Decklyn York, and Jastyn Chomic; and numerous other family members and friends.
