Joan Dula Persiani finished her Earthly journey on June 16th peacefully with her family by her side. Joan was born December 18, 1940 in Wilkesboro, NC. Joan was not short on a fulfilling life; from racing the Powder Puff series at Bowman Gray, having a young Elvis buy her a piece of pie, to making a key lime pie for a President and even running “shine” as a young adult.
She was always cooking up a feast for anyone who was hungry and even the ones that weren’t. Every evening, you could be certain that her TV was turned on to “Steve” because Family Feud was not what we called it in her house. Joan was an avid NASCAR lover and would undoubtedly cheer for Joey Logano to NOT win the race and was Bobby Allison’s biggest fan!
She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Fannie Mae Dula; brother, Richard Dula; sisters, Susan Bowman and Shirley Tevepaugh. She is survived by Jerry Dula; brother, Children: Cathy Snow (David), Sondra Whitman, Bobby Persiani (Kimberly), Ricky Dula, and Darlene George (Gary).
Family was the center of Joan’s world and her grandchildren & great grandbabies were her heart. Her love of life and family will live on through her grandchildren; Sam (Shelley), Hannah (TJ), Brice (Taylor), Brendan, Logan, Stephanie, Brittany, Matthew and family. Any trip to Grandma Joan’s house would end with a bag full of goodies for her Great Grandbabies: Ryder, Gunner, Willow, and Levi. Family was everything to her.
Joan left her mark on this world through years of hard work at Dobb’s International Services, Dewey’s, TW Garner, K&W Cafeteria, and the WS/FCS school system. She was so hard working that she would take a 10 day vacation to work at the Dixie Classic Fair each year. Joan worked well into her 70’s and wouldn’t take a rest even after retirement. She was always doing for others.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Frank Shumate. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Centerwell Home Health, Piedmont Dialysis, Davie Nursing and Rehabilitation, Scott from Quality Transport, & Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for all the loving care that you provided Joan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home to help other families as their loved ones transition to their Heavenly home at Trellissupport.org
