Joan Shelton Palmer

WESTFIELD Mrs. Joan Shelton Palmer, 76, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Stokes Reynolds Hospital in Danbury. She was born February 3, 1933 in Stokes County the daughter of the late Sam and Daisy Mickey Shelton. Mrs. Palmer was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 34 years of service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis ""J.D."" Palmer. Mrs. Palmer is survived by two daughters, Sherry P. Webb and husband Gary of Westfield and Gwynne P. McLain of Rocky Mount, VA, a son, Larry Palmer of Westfield, three grandchildren, Casey Webb and wife Melissa of King, Jamie McLain of Rocky Mount, VA and Emily Palmer Rhodes and husband Stephen of Beckley, WVA, four great-grandchildren, Nathan Rhodes, Shannon Webb, Shayne Webb and Celicity McLain and one brother, Robert F. Shelton and wife Shirley of Westfield. Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Stoney Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Westfield. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
