Mrs. Joan Evon Fisher Furr, 70, of Advance passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011. She was born November 16, 1940 in Danville, VA to Bruner and Ethel DeHart Fisher. Mrs. Furr served as a missionary with the International Mission Board of Richmond, VA for 35 years; 22 years in Peru, 2 years at the Baptist Spanish Publishing House of El Paso, TX and 11 years in Honduras. She is preceded in death by her parents and an infant twin son, Byron Fisher Furr. Surviving is her husband, Max T. Furr; two sons, Scott Furr of Torrance, CA and Bryan Furr and wife Jocelyn of Abilene, TX; four grandchildren, Justin Furr and wife Sarah of Valencia CA; Kristen Furr of Santa Clarita, CA and Graciela and Natalia Furr of Abilene, TX and a sister, Jo Ann Schillinger of Englewood, CO. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church, 5000 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Officiating will be Rev. Al Gilbert, Dr. Tom Canady, Rev. Rodolph Dixon and Pastor Abel Duliep. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Calvary Baptist Church, 5000 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104, directed to the Calvary Southside Hispanic Ministry.
