Mrs. Joan Lowery Burton, 81, of Winston-Salem passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on October 17, 1936 and was the daughter of Baity Lowery and Annie Sue Harris. She lived in Mtn. Park and Farmington before moving to Winston-Salem in 1955. Mrs. Burton attended Farmington High School and Draughn's Business College. She was last employed at Transport Insurance Company and was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church where she served on various committees and boards. She was preceded in death by her only son, Michael J. Burton. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Bobby J. Burton; her precious granddaughter, Kaitlin L. Burton; great grandson; Brayden; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Burton; brothers, Jimmy Lowery; Ed Harris; J.B. Lowery and wife Jane; her sister, Ellen Angell and husband James; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bob Peterson and Rev. Chaz Snider officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, 3655 Reed St., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or to Sunnyside Ministry, 319 Hale St., Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
