Jim A Tsiolkas

Jim A. Tsiolkas went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2016 surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was born October 26, 1931 in Kalesmeno, Greece to Eleftherios and Ourania Tsiolkas. At the age of 19, he left his home and traveled to America to help provide for his family back in Greece. He was a fast learner, adapting to a new country and new culture. After working to build a life here, he returned to Greece and married his wife, Helen Vlahos Tsiolkas in 1960. He worked and partnered in several restaurants until opening his own restaurant, Jimmy's Sandwichteria in 1968. He had a passion for food and cooking and was often asked for his secret recipes. He was an avid golfer, and often would be found on the fairways of Reynolds Park Golf Course. He was a giver, always helping others in any way he could, no questions asked. After losing his first wife of 29 years to cancer, he was fortunate enough to find love again with Helen Carros Tsiolkas, and they married in 1994. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gus Tsiolkas. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Carros Tsiolkas , his loving children Teddy, Pete, Dean and wife Tracy Tsiolkas, Renee and husband John Kortesis, Jim and wife Anthoula Carros, John Carros, Irene Mavroidis, his wonderful grandchildren Helen, Helena, Haley, Dimitri, Costa, Demetri, Nicole, Eleni, Andrew, Maria, Theo, and Emmanuel, three sisters Maria Gallins, Bessie Gallins, Stavroula and husband Jim Hodges. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Thursday August 11, 2016 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Trisagion Service at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 12, at the church with Father Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Thanks to the staff at WFUBMC and especially the Cancer Center.
